Ladywell Bridge, London Borough of Lewisham

The London Borough of Lewisham commissioned Tempo-PCE to waterproof the Eastern Span of Ladywell Bridge in the period from January 2010 to April 2011 by injection into the structure from beneath the road, using no traffic management. INGealtóir were the consulting engineers on this project. Their brief was to oversee any structural elements of the works.

This report outlines how the works were carried out to the structure, with reference to the understanding gained from an intrusive on-site feasibility carried out in September 2009. From the feasibility study, a trial Vault number five was waterproofed. The trial Vault confirmed that the process was viable for the waterproofing of the structure.

The project achieved waterproofing of the structure to an estimated 97% reduction of water ingress by injecting only from below, with no traffic restrictions. The concrete spalling and general deterioration of girders/beams and soffit has been arrested. The brick skin to the exterior of the bridge that had previously been damaged by water ingress was repaired with repointing, ties or new brickwork.
